Hi - I’m Kimberly.
My Professional Journey
Welcome to a brief overview of my path in the world of mental health care. I am a dual-licensed professional, holding credentials as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina and a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina. This journey has been fueled by a deep commitment to understanding and alleviating human suffering across a spectrum of experiences.
Educational Foundation
My academic pursuits laid the groundwork for my career. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the College of Charleston, a setting that sparked my passion for understanding the human mind. Seeking to deepen my expertise, I obtained a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University, with a specialization in Forensics. This unique focus equipped me with a robust framework for addressing the complexities of mental health within diverse and sometimes challenging contexts.
Diverse Professional Experiences
My career began in the heart of community mental health, where I had the privilege of providing individual, family, and group therapy to teenagers and adults. This experience was pivotal, allowing me to engage with a wide range of presenting problems and therapeutic needs. My work extended into the juvenile justice system, where I supported teenagers and their families, navigating the intricate interplay between psychological well-being and legal challenges.
Transitioning to a more acute care setting, I later joined hospital systems in Western North Carolina. In this role, I conducted emergency assessments for individuals facing psychiatric crises, offering immediate support and guidance during their most vulnerable moments. Concurrently, I continued to provide individual and family counseling through a medical practice, further honing my skills in offering compassionate, evidence-based care.
Centered Self Care: A Culmination of Experience
Before founding Centered Self Care, these diverse roles enriched my understanding of mental health care's multifaceted nature. Each setting has informed my approach, blending clinical expertise with a personalized touch to meet each client's unique needs. At Centered Self Care, I draw on this rich background to offer a compassionate, comprehensive therapy experience.

At different times and for different reasons we need support in connecting (or reconnecting) with our sense of worthiness. Centered Self Care focuses on combining that sense of worthiness with learning practical skills and habits to empower people to thrive.

Embracing the Full Spectrum of Our Identities
In every aspect of our lives, our identities play a pivotal role — from our gender identity and ethnicity to our racial background, age, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, and beyond. These layers of who we are influence how we navigate the world, interact with others, and perceive ourselves. Recognizing the profound impact of these dimensions, I anchor my therapeutic practice in the principle of intersectionality, embracing the rich tapestry of attributes that each individual brings to the therapy room.
A Holistic Approach to Healing
My commitment is to provide a therapeutic experience that honors and respects the complexity of your identity. By acknowledging and exploring the intersecting facets of who you are, we can unlock deeper insights into your experiences and challenges. This approach not only fosters self-awareness and growth but also cultivates a culture of curiosity and authenticity—empowering you to embrace your full self and, by extension, encouraging others to do the same.
Transformative Therapy: A Journey of Discovery
Therapy is more than a process of healing; it's a journey toward self-discovery and liberation from the confines of preconceived notions. It's about untangling the threads of what we've been taught to believe about ourselves to uncover the boundless possibilities of who we can become. This exploration can be both beautiful and daunting, but it holds the promise of profound change—not just for the individual, but for generations.
In our sessions, we will venture together into this journey of understanding and acceptance, creating a space where all parts of your identity are given the freedom to express themselves. This exploration is not a solitary one; it is a shared experience where growth, change, and deeper understanding become possible for all involved.
The Promise of More
The belief that underpins my practice is simple yet powerful: There is always the possibility for more—for growth, for healing, for transformation. Therapy offers a safe haven to unravel and reweave the narratives of our lives, embarking on a path that leads to richer, more authentic expressions of ourselves. Together, let's discover the vast potential that lies within the intricate mosaic of your identity.
